Basic Jewelry II

Thursdays, April 10 – May 29, 6:30 pm – 9:00 pm (8 weeks)


If you have jewelry experience and you want to reinforce your skills, this is the class for you!  Soldering, sawing, filing – all the basics will be reviewed and practice time will be available. Students will learn to make bezels for pendants and/or bring in an existing project to work on.

Basic Jewelry I

Tuesdays, April 8 – May 27, 6:30 pm – 9:00 pm (8 weeks)

Learn basic skills in this 20 hour evening beginners class – designing, sawing, filing, polishing, bezel and texturing metal techniques. Design and hand make a sterling silver pendant with a bezel set gemstone.

One Day Jewelry Making Workshop

Saturday, April 5, 10:00 am – 4:00 pm

This beginner’s workshop teaches you how to make jewelry out of copper.  Cutting shapes, filing, and surface texturing will be explored.  Demonstrations will be given along with studio time for you to create a pendant or pair of earrings.  Sterling silver can be purchased from the instructor .  (Ages 15 – adult)

Forged Hinged Bracelet Workshop

Saturday, May 3, 10:00 am – 3:00 pm

Students will be introduced to light forging with silver wire, making a beautiful sterling silver bracelet, while learning the basics of how metal moves. A clasp will also be forged and students will learn to rivet by attaching it to the bracelet. Some jewelry experience is helpful.

Two Day Wax Carving Workshop

Saturday, March 22 10:00 am – 5:00 PM and Sunday, March 23 12:00 PM– 3:00 pm

Lost wax casting is an exciting process, from carving wax to pouring molten metal. Students will get a glimpse of this ancient technique, from designing to carving the wax. Students will create waxed carved rings, stacking rings and textured bands and experiment with various tools. Waxes will be collected on Sunday, cast and available for pick up at a future determined date. Polishing will be reviewed for finishing the piece Students pay for silver castings based on the weight of the piece. Prerequisite: Jewelry I

Bangle Bracelet Workshop

Learn how to design, saw, solder and fabricate your own unique bangle or cuff bracelet.  In this one-day workshop, you will be introduced to the materials and processes of jewelry making.  Copper, solder and studio tools are included in the tuition. Ring Making Workshop

Learn to create beautiful rings of your own design. Students will explore several jewelry making techniques: soldering, forming, and hammering, to make their own textured rings. Wheel Throwing Basics and Beyond

Tuesdays, April 29 – June 17, 6:30 pm – 8:30 pm (8 weeks)

This course will introduce simple throwing techniques, with weekly demos and instruction given on the wheel. Students will have the flexibility to learn at their own pace They will be guided toward creating a variety of simple forms, as well as exploring more challenging forms such as teapots, plates, lidded jars etc., refining and expanding their capabilities on the wheel.

Learn to Throw in One Day

Jessica and Larry Lubowsky, Fire Pond Potters

Saturday, April 12, 10:00 am – 2:00 pm 

Learn the basics of how to throw a pot on a potter’s wheel from start to finish. This hands-on, intensive workshop is ideal for students who have never worked in clay or haven’t touched clay for years. In just four hours, complete at least one piece to take home after it is fired in the kiln.( Ages 16 - adult)

Hand Building: Making Slab Bowls

For beginners and experienced clay enthusiasts, this class will introduce students to the art of creating bowls using the slab technique. This simple process produces beautiful results. Bowls can be decorated with colored slips, carving (sgraffito), stamps, and glazes. Slab bowls are a great introduction to pottery making. Everyone will be successful!

Needle Felting

Learn the sculptural technique of needle felting wool! This class is for any experience level. Students will learn the art of sculpting in wool using wool roving and sharp barbed needles. It is simple and easy to learn. Students will complete their own curly sheep ornament. We will start from scratch completing the form, the head, the smile, and finally the sheeps curly coat. There are endless possibilities once you have learned the technique!

Nuno Felting—Art to Wear Workshop

Saturday, May 24, 10:00 am – 3:00 pm

This class is for any experience level. Students will learn about felting materials, techniques and a little folklore. Use merino wool roving, art yarns, wool curls and organza silk fabric to create a decorative, lightweight scarf or an art piece you can wear or hang proudly on your wall. Your finished work will be approximately 12” X 54”. Bring 4 big towels with you, they will not be harmed.

Intro to Glass Blowing Workshops

Two sessions offered each day: Saturday, May 10 or May 17 , 11:00 am – 1:00 pm or 2:00 pm – 4:00 pm. Workshop at Peter’s East Kingston studio

Peter Ridabock, an accomplished glass artist for over 20 years, will introduce you to the world of glass blowing. You will learn to create a paperweight of your own design. Choose from various colors of glass, design elements and techniques to try something truly unique and exciting!

Registration and Policies

Students are considered registered when tuition is paid in full. If, after paying, a student is unable to attend, tuition will be refunded, less a $25 processing fee, only if student withdraws (by phone or in writing) at least 10 days prior to the first class. No refunds will be given after that time.

If the class is cancelled by EFC or the date is changed and the student is unable to attend, a full refund will be given. In case the class is cancelled or the date is changed, students will be notified one week prior to the advertised start of class.
Every effort will be made to contact students if class is cancelled due to severe weather. Students may also contact the shop. A make-up class will be scheduled.

Separate tuition checks are required for each class/workshop.

Studio information: studios are open for the use of registered students from 10am-4:30pm daily, 12-3:00pm on Sundays during the duration of the class, except when other classes are scheduled. Studios are not open between sessions.
