Exeter Fine Crafts, the Seacoast’s most comprehensive selection of fine craft classes for students of all levels, is offering a new slate of courses for Winter and early Spring 2014. See below for the schedule of one-day and multi-week workshops and courses in pottery, jewelry and fiber art.

Basic Basic Jewelry I & 2

Kathy Binns

Thursdays, June 4- June 25, 6:30 pm – 9:00 pm (4weeks)

Learn basic skills; designing, sawing, filing, polishing, bezel and texturing metal techniques. For beginners, or if you have previous jewelry experience and want to reinforce your skills, this is the class for you! All the basics will be reviewed in detail, and practice time will be available. Bring in a project that you are working on, and a small quick project will be done in class.


Tuition: $130, materials fee: pay instructor for sterling silver and gemstones you choose

One Day Jewelry Making Workshop

Saturday, July 11, 10:00 am – 4:00 pm

This beginner’s workshop teaches you how to make jewelry out of copper and sterling silver sheet and wire. Cutting shapes, filing, and surface texturing will be explored. Demonstrations will be given along with studio time for you to create a pendant or pair of earrings. Copper for practice is included, then silver can be purchased from the instructor.

Making Your own Wire Chains

Saturday, August 22, 10:00 am – 4:00 PM

In this new summer workshop, students will learn how to make chain links and handmade clasps. soldering, hammering, and forging techniques will be demonstrated. Students will leave with samples of different chains, or if time allows, a completed bracelet. Copper will be provided for practice. Sterling Silver may be purchased from the instructor.

Exploring the Wheel

Tuesdays, July 7-July 28, 1:00 pm –3:30 pm (4 weeks)

This class is for continuing students to explore new forms and throwing techniques on the wheel. There will be weekly demos and tips on how to make better pots, from throwing more challenging forms to glazing the final product. Ages 12 and up..

Handbuilding for Kids of All Ages

Tuesdays, July 7 – July 28; four weeks. 10:00 am – 12:00 pm

Learn how to make pinch pots, coil, slab pots and ‘critters’ in this fast paced hands- on class for kids ages 10 and up. Kids under the age of 10 are welcome accompanied by an adult.

Learn to Throw in One Day Workshop

Jessica and Larry Lubowsky, Fire Pond Potters

Saturday, July 11, 10:00 am – 2:00 pm

Learn the basics of how to throw a pot on a potter’s wheel from start to finish. This hands-on, intensive workshop is ideal for students who have never worked in clay or haven’t touched clay for years. In just four hours, complete at least one piece to take home after it is fired in the kiln. (Ages 16 - adult)

Felting a Vessel

Saturday, July 18, 10:00 am – 3:00 pm

This class is for any experience level. Students will learn about felting materials, techniques and a little folklore. Learn how to add additional surface design with wool and yarns to create a decorative and unique 3-D art piece.


Tuition: $55, materials fee: $15 paid directly to instructor

Registration and Policies

Students are considered registered when tuition is paid in full. If, after paying, a student is unable to attend, tuition will be refunded, less a $25 processing fee, only if student withdraws (by phone or in writing) at least 10 days prior to the first class. No refunds will be given after that time.

If the class is cancelled by EFC or the date is changed and the student is unable to attend, a full refund will be given. In case the class is cancelled or the date is changed, students will be notified one week prior to the advertised start of class.
Every effort will be made to contact students if class is cancelled due to severe weather. Students may also contact the shop. A make-up class will be scheduled.

Separate tuition checks are required for each class/workshop.

Studio information: studios are open for the use of registered students from 10am-4:30pm daily, 12-3:00pm on Sundays during the duration of the class, except when other classes are scheduled. Studios are not open between sessions.
